The proof is in the numbers
Our newest case study was years in the making: we set out to prove that an increase in space does not have to add up to an increase in heating bills. When design work began on the addition and remodel of a vintage Takoma Park home we did a computer based energy model which predicted that there would be no impact on the heating load of the entire house and over two years after construction was finished we gathered the data of the owners heating bills and created a table comparing the usage of gas over a five year period that includes time before, during and after construction. After crunching the numbers we feel that our point has been made: with careful construction and smart use of materials you can significantly add to your living space without increasing your heating load.
